Jose Luis arrived in the U.S. at the age of 13 from his native Bolivia. As is the case with many immigrants, Jose Luis struggled with his immigration status. Despite this limitation, he was able to graduate high school and obtain both a Bachelors and a Masters degree from George Mason University. He now works for a company that provides sustainability and environmental research along with technical services to the government.
Why do you help students?
I received guidance and help during my time in high school from a group similar to USJ called Cohort. This group ingrained in me the importance of higher education and empowered me to achieve this goal. Because of this experience, I know how important this kind of help is to high school students and because of the help I received, I feel the need to give back.
